They look upside-down to me too Jim. I've seen people play with Dvonn pieces upside-down too (the trough of the pieces facing down instead of up).

GREAT SEEING YOU at Unity Games, Jim. We of course gabbed and didn't play a game, but I think we were both less frantic and more interested in the meet and greet aspect this time. This episode was great, by the way. I've only played Zertz and need to expand my gipf horizons. Thanks for the signposts...

Most excellent. I was wondering about the overgame, cannot you combine the various games somehow? Granted I was listening at work but I did not hear about that. Perhaps I am confused. Would not be the first time!

We had talked about the potentials a little, but it was cut out. We had about 30 minutes of summary on the games, but we were basically repeating ourselves when we went more in-depth. We sacrificed about 5 minutes of extra content to cut out 25 minutes of fluff.
I'm just getting caught up. Thanks for the plug. I'll be finishing up the Abstract Gamer podcats series on these "soon". I might just publish the boring version that I have in the can. It's hard to find time to sit down at the mic with the new baby.

Good episode, guys. I'm a latecomer to the GIPF series, having skipped it since I had this bias toward wooden abstracts. Last year a friend offered to play each game once with me during a gamesday series, and I was pleasantly surprised. I appreciated all of them (well, maybe not Zertz), honestly liked two, and bought two because I thought my kids might enjoy them. Though challenging because of the strategy, the appeal of the pieces and the purity of the rules make the games suprisingly approachable by kids.

P.S. The two games I liked were Dvonn and Yinsh, plus an honorable mention for Tamsk. I bought Dvonn and Gipf. Sure enough, Dvonn was the best received. Though now my daughter says I should get Zertz. :-)
